Jews for J??
You may have heard about the DVD that was sent in the mail several months ago.
We got a note in school about it. WARNING! Jews for J are sending out DVDs in Yiddish to people in several Jewish communities. The DVD looks innocuous (sp?) - they speak about nature and Moshiach, etc, in a very non-threatening way. And it's in Yiddish!
Typical my husband...he wanted to see what they had to say.
Thank G-d not because he's interested in joining them, but rather because he's curious to see their tactics.
We did NOT receive the DVD, but my parents did and my mom didn't mind sharing it with us. However, it was in Yiddish, as I stated before. My husband and I do not understand much Yiddish. BUT he sent in the reply card, saying he would not mind a phone call to discuss the DVD.
Since them we received 2 (of the same) letters from them...in Yiddish!
Now he got a phone call from "Jonathan." Yup, Jonathan from "Yimos HaMoshiach" (the days of Messiah.) Jonathan asked Dovid what he thought of the DVD. Well, Dovid was honest that he didn't understand it! But he thought it was about Moshiach.
Jonathan said, yes, but we believe Moshiach has already arrived and his name is Yehoshua (aka Jesus).
Anyhow.... Dovid said he wouldn't mind if they send him more information. Maybe this time they'll send it in English.
Maybe you think I'm weird...or my husband is...but you have to know him to understand (ex. the story of speaking with mindy and gum stuck in armpit hair...) to realize that he's doing this to get a laugh. And I assume - and hope! - that Jonathan doesn't somehow get a hold of my website!!
Anyhow...just wanted to share the latest adventure!
I tried to go to the toddler program at Ryder Library today - but they have a break until mid-Oct. Oh, well. I'll be back at work by then (B"H!). If it's not raining and it's going on, I hope to go to the Midwood Brand ToddlerRIF tomorrow. Hope to see you there, EB!!
Avi gained less than a pound in 2 months! Should I be worried??? He weighs how much Yitzy weighed at about 3 months! Then again...Yitzy was in the 90th percentile... I guess next dr's appointment if he's still gaining slowly I'll ask the dr. if I should worry (I'm not even sure if his dr. noticed b/c the intern weighed him).
Trying to teach Avi to fall asleep again now that he's over his cold...wish US luck!
I return to work...actually not return but START work...probably in about 2 weeks.
KIT!
(how's that for an update, rivkala! and thanks to you others who commented, too! how much did rivky pay you??)

Dear Rifs/Rivkerz,
This one is for you....
"I love you, Rivky.
Oh, yes, I do.
I don't love anyone,
as I love you.
When you're not with me,
I'm blue.
Oh, Rivky,
I MISS YOU, TOO!"
(so you coming over to visit soon?)
We went upstate a bit and had a great time. It's really beautiful to view the nature.
Lots of love,
mrs mmmmmmmmm

I love this photo of Yitzy, taken Friday. He really looks like the little boy that he is! He chats, is interested in books, and loves to watch Tatty at work!
PS Thanks, EB, notice the cup in the picture! No more bottles (I hope!) for Yitzy!

Here's Avi-cutie, after Dovid stamped him up with the address stamp. :) Unfortunately, I can't manage to get Avi's teeth in a picture. He has 2 bottom ones in, and a 3rd on top is just starting to come in!

Warning: Rambling Up Ahead!
Between erev Tisha B'Av and Tisha B'Av (plus the floor from beforehand), my house needs a GOOD (or great) cleaning today before Shabbos. I'm so glad not to have more work!
Sunday night was horrible. Yitzy woke up around when I was going to sleep (12?) and couldn't fall back asleep. Something was bothering him and he looked so tired and was trying to fall asleep, but he kept waking up crying. It was a hard night. Finally around 6 or so he got 2 solid hours of sleep. D took him to the doctor Monday, although he seemed perfectly fine and playing that morning. A "nasty" ear infection. Poor baby! He only had one dose of antibiotics that day, but that night he slept "like a baby" (actually better than Avi!), so whew! I'm glad he's feeling better!
Speaking of babies, Mr. Avi (as I call him sometimes, he's really become a little person. He's so mobile, crawling all over the place. He follows the action (usually Yitzy). If Yitzy goes from one side of the room to the other, Avi's right after him. Avi also "plays" with Yitzy (well, sort of -- he usually involves eating the vacuum cord!). He's a little person!
Oh, when it was my birthday a few weeks ago, somehow Avi got the plate after someone finished a piece of birthday ice cream cake. By the time I noticed, he was covered in chocolate! MMMMM...sure beats baby food!!
speaking of baby food, he's not into it much! He's 7 1/2 months and he's not too interested. Erev Tisha B'Av he actually ate over 1/2 a jar of apples and bananas. I was like - whew! he finally got it! Then yesterday when I tried to feed him the rest of the jar (starting with one small spoonful), he ended up gagging and vomitting! As though it was stuck in the back of his throat. HM! So I added some rice cereal and formula and made it nice and made it thinner and he ate that okay...
He is also picking himself up to stand more and more!
Yitzy is talking more and more, really putting words together nicely. When he napped a few days ago for like 2 hours, I told him, "Yitzy napped nicely." Now he says that about himself and Avi. :) He also says things like, "Avi, where you going?"
Because I sometimes try to get him to clean up his toys by singing a song, he's caught on and sometimes says, "Keen up a-toys away!"
Right now he's "vacuuming" up some cake crumbs he dropped...He's been stuffing his mouth with food lately and has to spit it out...gotta work on that one..! "Avi wash henties cake" - he just said because Avi went near the crumbs. He knows so many words and learns more and more all the time - it's incredible!
My little boys are growing up!

You Can Save a Life!

I had a scare the other day. I was in the kitchen, preparing food, while the kids were playing around. I looked behind me at the baby (maybe he had made a noise?) and saw the baby had vomit coming out of his mouth! I realized right away that he was choking! I started thinking to myself - choking baby under 1 year, what do I do? But before I had a chance, the object came out of his mouth. He had a small piece the size of a quarter that belongs to my husband's binoculars. Yitzy had touched it earlier and I didn't realize a piece had fallen to the floor.
Thank G-d the baby is okay! But it was a scare! And I realized that it's never a bad time (we should never need it, though) to brush up on First Aid Skills.
I am posting here what to do in case of choking victims. Please read through them. I hope you never need to use these skills, but it's good to know them just in case.

Infant (Younger Than 1 Year)
* Put the baby facedown on your forearm so the baby's head is lower than his or her chest.
* Support the baby's head in your palm, against your thigh. Don't cover the baby's mouth or twist his or her neck.
* To dislodge the object, use the heel of one hand to give up to 4 back blows between the baby's shoulder blades. See Illustration C.
* If the airway remains blocked, support the infant's head and turn the infant faceup on your thigh with his or her head pointing toward the floor.
* Place 2 or 3 fingers on the lower part of the baby's breastbone, and give up to 5 upward thrusts. See Illustration D.
* Look for the object in the infant's mouth. If you can see it, remove it with your finger. Then give 2 rescue breaths.
* If the back blows and chest thrusts do not dislodge the object, call 911 or other emergency services and begin rescue breathing (see CPR in the topic Dealing With Emergencies).
* Continue with back blows, chest thrusts, looking for the object, and rescue breaths until the infant coughs up the object and starts breathing on his or her own, or until help arrives.
