Bad News
Sometimes we hear news we don't want to believe.
It might be shocking, unexpected bad news, or something we knew was coming.
Either way, we are saddened by what we hear.
May we share only bsuros tovos.

This & That
We got a "new" (for us) table. It looks great and is more roomy. We went to Willy last week to get it. It was quite a task to bring in back here!
I took a teachers' examination today. I need it in order to get permanent certification. I hope I did okay. Unlike the other exams (the LAST and ATS-W), this exam, the multi-subject contect specialty tests, doesn't really have any practice guides. I think it was okay, though.
Just something interesting...I was worried cuz my permit is in my maiden name and you need to show photo ID. I brought along my marriage license to show I'm the same person...but the person who checked ID didn't even notice that the last name was different...so much for ID checking!! They do finger-printing, though, so there is other ID stuff going on.
I made spaghetti with pesto sauce for supper...yumm...Hubby's home. Good night!

Was That Her?
I was at the Hatzolah of BP Chinese Auction and the place was PACKED.
Outside, after getting a water bottle, trying to get through the crowd of kids and adults and more kids, I see a woman waving to me -- or in my direction.
You know what it's like when someone is waving toward you and you're not sure if they're waving TO you?
You don't want to wave back...on the possibility that that they're waving to someone behind you. (I've done that...believe me, it's embarrassing.)
You don't want to ignore them...because maybe it's someone you know, but you don't recognize at the moment.
The best thing to do, probably is smile. Just in case.
But when you're in the midst of it, you don't think.
And I didn't. I didn't react. I assumed she wasn't waving at me. After all, the place was packed and I didn't think I knew her.
But after I didn't react, I realized: hey, was the my 6th grade teacher??
Could that be the teacher I treasured years after she taught me, years after she got married and moved to Israel?
The teacher I wrote several letters to, years after she taught me, never to receive a response?
What that her?
Would she have been able to recognize me 10 years later?
What that her?
Come to think of it...when I got married, I sent her an invitation, which I got back "return to sender" a couple of months later. Could it be she moved back to Brooklyn?
For now...I guess I'll just have to keep wondering...
Should I have waved back?

Nice Shabbos
Shabbos was nice - great guests!
There are some really nice pictures of my husband's Rosh Yeshiva in this week's Yated...they show pictures of the rabbanim who went to E"Y for Lev L'Achim.
I bought the "HaMishpocha" new magazine this week - it's GREAT. Too bad it'll be out every week...in a way I wish it was less often cuz it has SO much to read and the introductory price won't last for long...But it's great reading!
Happy Lag B'Omer! Enjoy the music!!
PS happy 1st b-day to L & G's baby!

2 and 3 Year Olds Can Help, Too!
Yes, they can be BIG helpers. Now I'm not saying to start hiring out your nieces or taking in slave-labor...but sometimes help from a little pair of hands is helpful!
I love teaching "my kids." My students are delicious and yummy and...talented! We started the year by teaching them certain responsibilities...to wash their hands themselves, to throw out their plate when they're done eating, and to get a paper towel to clean up a mess they spilled.
But as the year went on, they really learned to be very handy!
Take, for example, the time some paint got on the tables and floor. The children offered to help wipe it up using baby wipes!
Today, with my assistant out in the afternoon, I had to put away all the cots after nap time. As it is Thursday, I also had to take off all the sheets and blankets and put them in a bag to send to the laundry.... The kids did it again! It was a game for them -- their fun meant I didn't have to bend and shlep! Not only did they strip the sheets off the cots, but they put all the linens in the bags and brought me the cots to put away in the closet. No more bending for Morah with these little helpers around!
I'm thinking of taking a few home with me to help with the Shabbos preparations. Think their parents will mind?? ;)
A child is never too young to learn responsibilities.

The Taste Test
I don't know if you remember, but a loooong while back (like September, maybe?) I asked for a good challah recipe. Nut gave me one, which came out DELISH! (I just changed the recipe a bit - making it part whole wheat.)
Anyhow....Chanuka I bought the Bosch...College is over now so I decided - time to bake again!
Somehow I messed up....anyone out there make challah? So..the recipe says to put all the flour in...all 6 pounds?? It went to the top of this 10 lb. capacity machine!!!!! How was I supposed to add other ingredients, too?????
The things we do trying to be an eishes chayil...
Anyhow, I sorta figured it out (I think)....taking out some of the dough and doing part at a time, etc, etc...but there's gotta be an easier way....Afterward I read something about adding the last few cups of flour later...but Nut's recipe didn't say that...HMmmmmm...WTVR!!!
Anyhow, the last batch of challahs are in the oven now...smells yum and looks pretty good...I'm just afraid I messed up -- but at least they rose beautiful...hope they taste good, too. I have special guests this Shabbos, so I really hope so!!
Oh - and CC - now it's your turn to visit me. :)
Have a wonderful Shabbos, y'all!!

Still there?
It's nice to see people are reading again: welcome back, Miriam & CrazyCat! :)
Things are going well here, B"H. Hectic week. We had a review at work, but it seems to have gone well.
