trying something...

#2 Today

Just as an aside...At sheva brochos Thursday night, "Mrs H," my father's cousin...the one who's daughter had run away a few months ago...was there. You know how you're so curious to know what's going on but don't want to ask cuz you're embarrassed for the other person? That's how I felt. I spoke to her, she asked about my job and I told her, etc... But I had questions I wanted to ask, but didn't. How is F doing? Is she still in Monsey, as I read online? Any progress? I wanted to wish her hatzlocha...
But you don't bring up a "stranger's" problems unless they do...So we'll just keep wondering...and hoping...
Final CakesI just got tomorrow night's five final questions over the phone. Our professor wants us to prepare the answers at home and then just write them over for the final. Sounds hard, eh? We even have down most of the page numbers...
I made chocolate cake and cupcakes. Yummmm.....Gotta go check to see if they're ready!
All the best,
Mrs M

Chanukah Kvatters

Aaah.....the smell of popping popcorn!
I put on Miami's "Light up the Night" to get into the Chanuka mood! Only 3 weeks left! (YES, and 3 weeks until the B & H wedding BE"H!!)

Friday we ended up going into Queens for the bris. At the Shabbos bris, the kvatters did not end up showing up so my husband and I were kvatters. It was very nice!

Today the wind was quite strong! A man's black hat blew off his head! But hey, it's better than a shaitel! (I felt like reassuring him that, but I didn't cuz he was a stranger.)

I got my shaitel done last week for my cousin's chasunah...Of course, Friday night it was POURING and we went to the sholom zochor...so the shaitel doesn't look so 'fresh' anymore. Oh well. At least I got to wear it a few times this week. B"H!

I just did some thank you cards (I'm finally almost done!). I'm going to finish up a term paper now (#3/4). Have a great week!!
Let me know what's on your mind!
PS Pazz & Q, be in touch about the concert, k?

The Wedding

Last night was my cousin's chasunah. It was really nice. My 14-year-old sister Munchkin decided she's going to get married in that hall. I told her to start saving now. It's probably like 5x the amount per person that we paid.
I came home about 5 o'clock to hear a message from my mother that my aunt called her that we have to be there for pictures at 5...I had accidently left my cell phone home so I found out then! So.....so much for thinking I'd rest for an hour until I had to get ready!
We arrived about 6:30 and they took a family picture...we didn't miss anything anyhow...they took another one after the chuppa anyhow, when more relatives came. It's funny....they left a spot in the middle of the big family picture to digitally insert the chosson & kallah. That is so funny! My mother was thinking they should take that picture and digitally insert me & my husband from my chasunah and switch us with this new couple...LOL....
The shmorgis board was incredible! They had so many different stations, including a sushi part and a carving station (turkey?). Stuffed cabbage, crepes, chicken...getting hungry??
All in all, it was a beautiful chasunah! My cousin who had a baby after 6 years of marriage was there with her yummy son who is kn'h now about 1 years old. I enjoyed the dancing, as well...but by the time the 2nd dance came around I was ready for bed. My husband was, too...so we left before dessert. It's okay, it wasn't as fancy as the shmorg, I was later told.

It's Thursday now. I woke up with my throat bothering me and a cold...Decided to go to the dr and come late to work or not at all depending on what he said.....I called and called and then realized they must be closed for Thanksgiving. So I spoke to my assistant at work (who is an absolute doll! I'm looking for a shidduch for her! ;) and she said I should stay home and rest...so that's what I did!

I wanna make a cake for my friend's baby's shalom zochor but my husband said that #1 priority is feeling better...so maybe I'm going to feel better soon!!
Sheva brochos tonight!!

See I hocked afterall!

Frustrations

Well, I made a really yummy supper tonight: stuffed shells. But it was quite frustrating this morning!
Firstly, I got this new, neat pasta pot. You don't need a strainer. To strain the noodles, you tighten the pot cover and turn the pot over - there are holes in the pot. However, I put the cover on for the water to boil....and then it got stuck! My husband unstuck it my sticking in under cold water...Then I'm waiting and waiting and the noodles are taking their time to get ready...I'm running late to work...finally they're ready...I turn the pot over and start straining the liquids...and the cover falls off and 1/2 the noodles end up in the fleishig sink!! So.....it's a good thing 1/2 a box is enough for the two of us.
So......I made the rest after work and it was delicious! I guess I'll use the other noodles some other time for a fleishig stuffed shells dish.

I was on hold about 40 minutes on my cell today trying to take care of something for my teacher certification...hope I didn't go over my minutes!!

Well....my "closest" (in age - we were very close when we were younger) cousin had a baby and the bris is Friday...and they're doing it in Queens......so I don't think I'll be going. CHAVAL!

One more kid from my class is now (mostly) potty-trained. Hooray!! 5/8!! And you know what? The other Early Head Start class I think only has 2/8 kids potty-trained. Mine are "big" kids! ;)

Okay, I think Gishmak is going to update soon, too, so be on the lookout.
Have a great night!!

B"H What a Week This will Be!
So...I decided to take off class tonight to get some work done...I won't miss anything important, right?? Uh-huh. Suuuureee. So I found out that the professor decided that the final will be NEXT week instead of the week after so he gave out the final questions today instead of next week...Oh well!! It's a good thing I told a girl I would be absent, so I can make up the notes from her!
Well, at least I got some accomplished on my term papers. I'm almost done my third one (out of 4), so that is pretty good!
So tomorrow I have college. Yeah, all this is in addition to my 9-4 job! And I'll make sure to go to THIS class just in case the professor (same guy) pulls the same shtick!
Wednesday is my cousin's chasunah, BE"H. Thursday is sheva brochos.
Friday is my cousin's baby's bris. Shabbos is my friend's baby's bris. (Mazel Tov, Leah!!)
B"H What a week! Just don't be surprised if I'm not online much! You can call me if you have my number or email...I'm still around!

ATTENTION RAIZY KATZ...
please save Ms Bee $20 by revealing yourself....she keeps getting emails saying they have Raizy Katz's HOME address........ but WHO IS RAIZY KATZ??
LOL. Nice try!
Girls Night Out
So we had a mini hocker reunion. don't be insulted if you weren't invited. It was just 3 of us (plus 1 driver;) and it wasn't preplanned. Q! will let us know when she schedules the next real reunion!
Speaking of Q(don't we love speaking about her? j/k)....I bought some IQ ice cream the other day and I noticed they copied her. it's ice qream....one flavor was something qrunch....but they're not as astute as the REAL Q!SAT...cuz they wrote chocolate, not choqolate and the like....
Alrighty...have a gut voch to y'all and keep in touch!

Saturday, November 22

Mazel Tov to my cousin Mati on the birth of her b'chor on Erev Shabbos!
The aufruf today was really nice.
I gotta get to work on term papers.
CYA around! Gut voch!

So Much to Say...To little Time!
My mother and sister are coming for supper...so I have to make this quick. The meatballs are up. Mmmm....smells good.
Guess what! I won two things at that chinese auction. Pretty good considering there were over 1,000 people there (it was PACKED). More about this later...Q & Mindy, you'll find it interesting, I think....
I gave my lesson today where I was observed. It came out great, B"H. Everyone loved the book I wrote. Maybe I'll send it into Feldheim or something.
The wind was blowing today and this woman's shaitel flew right off & into the street. Oy! I felt so bad for her! She was running and screaming and this guy on a bike who looked like an Arab got it for her! I held onto my shaitel tighter after that!! (Clips DO help, though!)
On the bus there were some kids from a modern yeshiva and some of the boys had their yarmulkas off and I felt it was so sad. One kid was eating Skittles...a non-kosher snack...One kid said to him, "You know Skittles aren't kosher."
The kid replied, "Mind your business."
"So why are you eating it?"
"I said, mind your business."
I thought it was so sad. May we all merit to raise frum, erliche children!
More to say, but I gotta clean up now...so stay tuned!!!
=)
and don't forget to sign my guestbook (link below). Thanks!!!
Good Shabbos!

DisABILITIES
Hiya!
Q!SAT text messaged me from class. It's so funny....I had that professor way back when...too bad we weren't in college together! It would have been neat texting across the room. =)
This Thursday I'm being observed giving a lesson in the Head Start class. I looked around for a children's book on disabilities, but did not find one that was what I was looking for. So you know what I did? I WROTE ONE! I got pictures off the internet and put words...and wala! A book! Maybe I'll even send it into Feldheim or something...
I just came home from the Bonei Olam chinese auction. May they continue to help people! (And maybe I'll even win something?)
Wishing y'all a great rest of the week!!
Luv,
Mrs Mosquito

~Pictures, Music & Mazel Tovs~
Hiya, y'all!
So "somebody" said I could post a picture she emailed me on my site cuz no one will know who she is anyway (NOT a hocker, eh?)....should I post it and see if she was right? ;)
I've "discovered" FiveTownsRadio.com. I've heard of it, but I never tried it out until they started listening to it in the office in my school. So now I checked it the other night and I'm hooked. They're playing "The Simcha Song" now. =)
So....what else? My cousin had a baby girl. She wasn't able to name her my grandmother's full name (for several reasons), so they named her Perel Bracha. Perel is from my grandmother (NOT PERRY!) and I don't know why Bracha...will find out I"YH. Maybe after the same person Gishmak was named after? Anyhoo, I think it's a beautiful name B"H!
My other cousin's aufruf is this Shabbos. Not sure yet what I'm wearing to the chasunah, but it's bound to be something that's in my closet, so I'll figure it out.
SIMCHOS! SIMCHOS! SIMCHOS!

Wednesday, November 12

So THIS is what exhaustion feels like....
I haven't been online much lately, so don't be insulted that I haven't read your site or noticed an update...It's been quite busy around here.
On Tuesday, I had to be in school regular time (9 AM) and do paperwork. Then we went to another building where the ENTIRE staff of the organization/school was there for a meeting about some sort of survey we're taking part of. After that I stopped at Nut's store and picked up lunch (she wasn't there) and took a train to Manhattan.
Yes, I was running all over the place. I went to Touro. Registered for college. I was very lucky, registration really starts next week, but I told them this is the only day I have off, so they let me come in. So I did that, and did a change of name and address. I filed for graduation for June I"YH and then I picked up my bachelor's diploma!! Hooray!
Then I headed back on the train...then the bus...then to college for class. YAWN! I was exhausted! We took out from a restuarant for supper because I was so zonked!!
Had a great day at school. Our "crier" was MUCH better today. She's adjusting, B"H. The kids are yummy. I just wrote the weekly newsletter for the parents and when I typed "kinderlach" the program automatically changed it to "interface." LOL. Ok....
I'm so tired for all the running around. I am being observed I"YH next week for my practicum and I still don't have a lesson, so I need to work on that, too...
I miss you. Take care & email me if you want. Also sign my guestbook (link somwhere below.)
have a great rest of the week!

Love,
Mrs. M

Monday, November 10

Busy, Busy, Busy
So our "crier" whined less today. That's a step.
Tomorrow I have to do paperwork, but the kids aren't coming in. We have a meeting for the entire staff of the organization about some sort of survey thing. We get out early, so then I can go to Manhattan and register for college and pick up my BS diploma! (I almost wrote dimploma!) Then I go to college for class....yawnnnnnnnnn!!! I'm exhausted thinking about tomorrow already!
I am going to type up my term paper on "Nature versus Nurture" now. It's quite interesting. Don't let me stay late online, k? All the work is making me exhausted and I MUST get a decent amount of sleep.
So if I'm on past 11....in the words of Q!..."Yell at me!" Thanks, my friends. Good week to y'all.

Don't use Remedia!
I heard Hatzolah announcing this ON SHABBOS, so it's obviously VERY important. Pass it on to anyone who it might help!!

REMEDIA BABY FORMULA POISONED - RECALLED - Remedia, a baby formula imported from Israel, has been making children in E"Y sick. If you use this formula please take your child to the hospital immediately. If you know a friend who does, please notify them!

Just a reminder....: An e-mail I received
A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present
"Seven Wonders of the World."

Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student had not
finished her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble
withher list. The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my
mind because there were so many."

The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help."

The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the 'Seven Wonders of the World
are:

1. To See

2. To Hear

3. To Touch

4. To Taste

5. To Feel

6. To Laugh

7. And to Love."

The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.

The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and that we take for granted
are truly wondrous! A gentle reminder -- that the most precious things in
life cannot be built by hand or bought by man.

The First Full Day - Without Mommy
Yes, the children survived their 1st day of school. And they were fine. Really. Barely any crying. Some of them are still a little nervous, adjusting, not speaking with us yet....one is easily upset cuz she's still noives about being there....but they're all absolutely YUMMMMMMYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today we colored in a picture of a school bus. Our "theme" is getting acquanted. Yes, we even make lesson plans for 2-year-olds! interesting, eh?
I cant' wait for tomorrow. The 2nd day of school!! Hooray!!! Yummy, delicious, adorable, TODDLERS!!
And 1/2 of them are toilet trained. That's pretty good. 4/8. The other class has only 2/8, so we're kinda lucky. Except instead of changing diapers 1-2x a day, every hour you gotta ask the kid, "daf toilet?" Oh no, wrong subject....Q better not get her favorite ads up...I was happy to see some education ones up!!
Oh, and another thing: about 6 of the kids are primarily Yiddish speaking. So you gotta hear me practice. Mindy, you'd be proud!! "Vilst shpielin mit de legos??" watch my yiddish improve!
A gitte tug.

Q [10:27 PM]: Guesthock from Q!SAT:
Q [10:27 PM]: I want to help Mosquiti with her ad problem....
It seems to be that it keeps popping up with unmentionables....Therefore, I'd like to guesthock about the following, which have no relevance to me at this moment and have no relevance to each other. Let's see if the ads disappear:
~Macaroni
~potato chips
~family
~Torah
~cell phones
~children
~teaching
~windowshades
~aaaaaaaaaaaahh...a report for American Politics...unfortunately all too relevant.....about SMOKING
whaddaya think?
Mrs M [10:31 PM]: I think that teaching, Torah, family and cell phones ARE revelant to you! (revelant/relevant!)
Q [10:32 PM]: yups, true
Blog #2 for Today (read both!)
My students started school today. Picture 8 two-year-olds, attached to mommy. Actually some kids adjusted and are adjusting better than others. That's normal. But I hope it won't be too hard.
It's amazing how children are so different. Some kids speak full sentences. Others say 'uh uh' and point to what they want. One girl was VERY attached to her mommy. She is the most difficult one meanwhile. She looked at books and they became HERS. I was looking for a book at one poing, so we looked UNDER her, cuz she was sitting on a bunch, and she started screaming!!
Hooray for the Terrible Twos!!
But they are definately adorable kn'h!! wish me luck tomorrow and let me know what you think of the recipes:)
Recipes

Since I got married, I started looking for good and easy recipes. So I decided to impliment this new hobby of mine online a bit. You can email me with good, healthy & quick recipes and I'll post some online. (Mindy should like the healthy ones, as per her last update).

I wanted to start with the recipes posted in my guestbook.
Submitted by Mrs. Mosquito: Spaghetti Squash: You have to buy a spaghetti squash (know what it is?) and there are a few recipes online. But basically you cut it in half and place down on tray and bake about 30 minutes or until tender (could be up to an hour - check every 10 minutes after 30). When it's done, scoop out the strings into a bowl. Then add margarine, salt...whatever you think will make it taste good.

Submitted by Chanie: Butternut Squash, you just bake it for about 45 min at 350...sometimes you need more time, basically until its soft. You could eat it plain or add honey and/or cinnamon.

YUMMY!!!!!!!! ENJOY!!

The Living Torah Museum

Last night we went to The Living Torah Museum, which is located in the heart of Boro Park. I was quite impressed by the things that were on display and by the personal tour! I don't think I've ever enjoyed a museum so much!!

Usually when I go to a museum and see artifacts, I'll read here & there what they're about, but generally I'll run through the room. In this museum, however, a frum man guided us and explained to us every piece in the 2 main rooms. All the artifacts are connected to Jewish history in some way or another. Sometimes Rashi would explain something that is difficult to understand without understanding the vessels of that time....the ones on display at this museum clarify many things! There were coins displaying kings that have ruled over the Jews. We saw what they used for measurements and shekalim. There were even tools that the women of old times used for make-up! That was quite interesting!!

The 3rd room, designed for children to try out farm tools, helps us understand many of the 39 Melochos that we don't necessarily do in the same way today. There is a loom, a seed planter, amongst other things!

We had a great time!! It's a great trip idea for people of ALL ages!
